Success Story: A 1-Year-Old CHD Warrior From Sahiwal

Ahmed’s story of how he became a ‘Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Warrior’ at the age of 1 is an inspirational one. His family went through hurdles unimaginable for most and came out valiantly.
Ahmed was diagnosed with Tetralogy Of Fallot (TOF), a critical CHD that is a combination of 4 heart defects. Ahmed’s father, Ansar Nabi, is a farmer in their hometown, Sahiwal. With the medical facilities there not being able to effectively treat little Ahmed, he had to take his little of bundle of joy elsewhere. First, they went to Multan, but even there they were left dismayed. Then they came all the way to Lahore.
Luckily for them, our organization is based in Lahore, and with years of experience behind us helping deserving children suffering from CHD, we were ready to help Ahmed as well.
Ansar was told that his son would need heart surgery, an expensive procedure called a ‘Total Correction’. Being the sole provider for his family, which includes his wife and 5 children, he was struggling to come up with the funds required.
Thankfully, the national Sehat Card facility, Pakistan’s revolutionary health insurance initiative, turned out to be a massive boost to their hopes. With finances now taken care of, our team could now focus on Ahmed’s surgery, to be performed by Dr. Salman A. Shah, Pakistan’s only American Board certified Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, at our very own Cardiac Care Centre at the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital (ULTH).
Blessedly, after the efforts of our entire team, the surgery was a massive success! Ahmed’s family, especially his father who was tremendously satisfied with our facilities, is eternally grateful to us and prays for our continued success, alongside legendary Pakistani cricketer, Misbah Ul Haq, on the journey to conquering CHD.
