The 2-Year-Old CHD Warrior From Our Screening Camp In Skardu
We recently completed a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Screening Camp in the scenic northern city, Skardu (Gilgit-Baltistan). 50 CHD cases were identified and their families were counselled. This is the success story of one of those patients, 2-year-old CHD Warrior, Mujtaba Nisar.
Mujtaba’s family is from Shigar, a beautiful valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, popular among tourists not only for it’s natural beauty, but also for various buildings of historical importance, including the Shigar Fort.
His father brought him to the camp in which doctors and volunteers, both from Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF) and the University Of Lahore (UOL), held CHD screening.
Once it was confirmed that Mujtaba had CHD and would require surgery to have a fair chance at a normal life, his father was devastated. He couldn’t afford the recommended treatment and he also knew that medical facilities in his city were scarce.
That is where we stepped in. Not only did we make all the arrangements for the heart surgery in practically no time, we also paid for the entire family’s trip to Lahore. From start to finish, diagnosis to discharge, we took care of the whole process and ensured that the family wouldn’t have to face any hurdles.
Mujtaba Nisar, after undergoing successful heart surgery, is now a 2-year-old CHD Warrior. His family, especially his father who was a symbol of strength and source of support throughout, is eternally grateful to PCHF and our phenomenal donors.
For children born with CHD, and their families, no matter how hard things get, no matter how impossible things may seem, we at PCHF, are here for you.
