Syed Afzal Ahmed Biography
He did his MBBS in 1970 from Rajshahi Medical College, Rajshahi and was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps in 1971. His postgraduate qualifications are MCPS, FCPS (Pak), FCPS (BD) and FPAMS. He did on the job training in cardiac surgery from St. Thomas Hospital London and worked as a General Surgeon till 1978, and from 1978 onwards, as a Cardiac surgeon.
He commanded the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and National Institute of Heart Disease from 2001 to 2004. Keeping in view his meritorious services rendered to the Army and the Country, he was appointed as Surgeon General Pakistan Army in December 2004.
On his retirement from the Pakistan Army, he joined CMH Lahore Medical College.
