Rushna’s Success Story
This is the #SuccessStory of a 6-year-old #CHDWarrior, Rushna. She was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called an Atrial Septal Defect #ASD, which is a hole in the septum (wall) between the two upper chambers (atria) of the heart, increasing blood that flows through the lungs.
Rushna and her family live in the stunning valley of Swat, located in the upper north region of KPK. While Swat is popular for its breathtakingly amazing views and scenic beauty, the healthcare facilities are currently not quite adequate to treat Rushna’s potentially fatal hereditary heart condition.
After inquiring throughout the entire valley, Rushna’s family started looking elsewhere for her treatment. This search led to them to Lahore where they met Dr. Mohammad Asim Khan, a renowned Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon.
Dr. Asim informed them about the procedure required to heal Rushna’s heart, an Aortic Valve Repair. Rushna’s father, who works as an office peon and solely supports his whole family which includes his wife and 3 children, was unable to afford the treatment though.
The family’s initial feeling of despair was quickly put to rest by the remarkable Dr. Asim, who also happens to be a Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF) Medical Advisory Board Member. He referred them to us for financial support, and that’s where we stepped in.
We have funded over 3100 child heart surgeries at a total cost of more than PKR 1.2 billion. Our vast experience and phenomenal donor base make us amongst the best at what we do, which is saving lives of deserving children born with CHD, the world’s most common birth defect.
When Rushna’s family brought her to us we assured them of doing our absolute utmost to help her survive CHD. Following an efficient patient registration process, consultations and check-ups, her surgery was scheduled at one of our partner hospitals, the prestigious Ittefaq Hospital (Trust) Lahore.
Dr. Asim himself was to carry out the complex surgery, with a brilliant team of healthcare professionals alongside him. With the availability of world-class facilities as well, we were fully prepared and Rushna’s family was constantly praying while she was fighting for her life.
Following an unimaginably difficult time for Rushna’s loved ones, we were extremely pleased and felt blessed to be the ones to inform them that the heart surgery was a resounding success! Rushna had overcome CHD and her life was now a blank canvas with unlimited possiblities.
The pure happiness of Rushna’s family members, especially her inspirational father, could not be contained. As the time of discharge approached, they mentioned how satisfied they were with us and how they wished to donate. They even hoped for Rushna to become a doctor like the ones associated with PCHF.
For CHD affected families, no matter how hard things get, no matter how impossible things may seem, we are here for you. Our goal is to ensure that not a single child suffering from CHD in Pakistan remains untreated.
