Manaen Sunail: A 4-Year-Old CHD Warrior

Since our inception in 2012, we at Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF), have helped 2401 children get heart surgery. This is the amazing success story of a remarkably spirited 4-year-old Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) survivor, Manaen Sunail. As a blossoming child, Manaen was diagnosed with a CHD known as Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). This left his parents distraught and distressed, searching for ways to save their little one.
ASD is a hole in the septum (wall) between the two upper chambers of your heart (atria). The hole increases the amount of blood that flows through the lungs. A large, long-standing ASD can damage the heart and lungs.
We provide the highest quality of care for children with heart disease, irrespective of their financial means. Each year around 60,000 children are born with CHD in Pakistan, and a large majority of these children are unable to get the treatment required, due to lack of facilities, personnel and the high costs involved. That is where we step in.
Manaen Sunail’s family lives in Lahore. They came to us full of expectations, looking to end their continuous struggle. Manaen’s father, Sunail Sarfraz, is currently unemployed, and his mother, Aine Sunail, is a housewife. Thankfully, their prayers were answered as the surgery was scheduled through a swift, smooth and extremely efficient process. Blessedly, Manaen’s procedure, an ASD Closure, was a resounding success, and after a few days at the hospital under the special care of our brilliant team of healthcare professionals, he was discharged. Sunail and Aine are now proud parents of a CHD warrior.
