Eshaal’s Success Story
Since inception in 2012, we at Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF), have financially supported 4,884 child heart surgeries. This is the success story of 8-year-old Eshaal, who was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called Tricuspid Atresia.
Tricuspid Atresia is a birth defect in which the valve that controls blood flow from the right upper chamber of the heart to the right lower chamber doesn’t form at all. In children with this heart defect, blood isn’t able to flow properly through the heart and to the rest of the body.
Just a few days after her birth, a truly blissful time for her family, Eshaal’s parents started to notice signs of cyanosis (bluish-purple colour of the skin) in her lips and nails. She was also having difficulty breathing.
Initially, she was taken to a few local doctors in her hometown of Sargodha. After being examined thoroughly, the doctors there suspected an underlying heart problem and asked the family to go to Lahore and visit Dr. Masood Sadiq, a renowned Pediatric Cardiologist.
This raised alarms and her family members were extremely worried. Their worst fears came true when after visiting Dr. Sadiq, it was confirmed through an Echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound) that Eshaal had Tricuspid Atresia and that treatment was immediately required.
The family was overcome with anguish. To make matters worse, they were told that Eshaal needed to undergo a surgery that were relatively expensive. Eshaal’s father, who works as a shopkeeper and is the sole breadwinner in a family of 6, was in desperate need of financial support.
Fortunately for him, after meeting Dr. Mohammad Asim Khan, a Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon who also happens to be a PCHF Medical Advisory Board Member, informed him about us. This would be the start of his life turning around.
Being an organization that has paved the way to a normal life for thousands of children like Eshaal, thanks to an incredible donor base, we were going to do our utmost to save Eshaal’s life as well. After swiftly evaluating the case, her surgery was scheduled at one of our partner hospitals, Ittefaq Hospital (Trust) Lahore.
Eshaal’s father, commendably made a significant contribution towards the heart surgery as well. A brilliant team of healthcare professionals was on board and the family was told that she was in the best of hands.
After she went in for surgery, her family remained a symbol of strength, constantly praying for her well-being. Once the procedure was complete, it was our privilege to inform them that Eshaal had overcome CHD! She was a ‘CHD Warrior’, now and forever.
Her loved ones were all grateful beyond measure and full of praise for our team. They now had the opportunity to shine bright together in life and this was something they would always be thankful for.
For CHD affected families, no matter how hard things get, no matter how impossible things may seem, we at PCHF – charity you can trust with all your heart, are here for you. Our goal is to ensure that not a single child born with CHD in Pakistan remains untreated.
