Aalyaan’s Success Story
Since inception in 2012, we at Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF), have financially supported 5,671 child heart procedures. This is the success story of 1-year-old Aalyaan, who was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) called Tetralogy Of Fallot (TOF).
In TOF, 4 related heart defects affect blood flow. In most cases, too little blood goes to the lungs. Low-oxygen blood then circulates to the rest of the body and not enough oxygen can reach body tissues. Children with TOF often have cyanosis, a blue or purple tint to the skin, lips and fingernails.
The day after Aalyaan’s birth in his home city of Mardan (KPK), his life-threatening CHD was diagnosed. What was a joyous occasion, fast turned into one of shock and scare for his family.
Aalyaan’s father is a doctor and knowing the risks involved, he immediately started consulting with pediatric cardiologists in and around the city. After a few meetings, he was advised to go to Lahore and see Dr. M. Asim Khan, a renowned Pediatric Cardicac Surgeon.
He wasted no time whatsoever and scheduled an appointment. After making his way down to Lahore, he was told by Dr. Asim that once Aalyaan was a year old he could get heart surgery. Before then, he would need medication.
After being informed of the estimated cost of the required procedure, Aalyaan’s father mentioned how he would need financial support and if Dr. Asim could help in any way. Being a PCHF Medical Advisory Board Member, he shared information about our organization.
Aalyaan’s parents were happy to find out about us but for around a year they had to see their little boy suffer. He had cyanosis, breathing problems and frequent chest infections. However, we were going to be ready to step in once the time came.
After this very distressful time for the family passed, it was time for our team to financially evaluate the case. This is a quick process and once complete, we were pleased to inform them that we would financially support Aalyaan’s heart surgery.
This was thanks to our incredible donor base who we will always be grateful beyond measure to. Without them, we would not be among the nation’s premier organizations in the field of CHD. Long may this continue.
The surgery was scheduled at one of our partner hospitals, Ittefaq Hospital (Trust) Lahore, and Dr. Asim would carry out the procedure alongside his experienced team. All formalities were taken care of and the family was told to just pray for everything to go well. Aalyaan was in great hands.
Following the completion of Aalyaan’s heart surgery, we were thrilled to inform his loved ones that he had overcome CHD! He was now a ‘CHD Warrior’ who showed true strength as his small heartbeat triumphed.
The whole family was overjoyed as they had finally overcome the challenge of CHD and had a normal life to look forward to. At the time of discharge, his father thanked our entire team and said that he would also start contributing to our cause as much as possible. We are thankful for the support.
