6-Year-Old Maham’s Success Story

This is the #SuccessStory of Maham, a 6-year-old ‘Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Warrior’ who came to us all the way from Sialkot. She was diagnosed with a CHD called an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD).
An ASD is a hole in the septum (wall) between the two upper chambers (atria) of the heart. The hole increases the amount of blood that flows through the lungs. A large, long-standing ASD can damage the heart and lungs.
Maham’s family lives in Sialkot, a city renowned for its entrepreneurial spirit, and because of its productive business climate, has emerged as a world-class manufacturing hub. Despite its economic success though, the treatment needed to save young Maham’s precious life was unavailable there.
After a medical check-up at a private institute, Maham’s family received the immensely distressing news. She would need life-saving heart surgery that was relatively expensive. This left Maham’s father feeling tremendously worried.
He works as a labourer and solely supports his whole family, which includes his wife and 4 children. There was absolutely no way he could afford Maham’s treatment on his own. After going through various hurdles, he eventually found his way to Dr. Faiz Rasool, a renowned Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon in Lahore.
Dr. Faiz was the one who informed Maham’s family about our organization and the work that we have been doing for people going through similar precarious situations. He referred them to us for financial support, and luckily for them, they came to the right place.
With over 3000 heart surgeries funded since our inception in 2012, we have vast experience of around a decade saving lives of children like Maham. We are amongst the best at what we do, which is providing world-class treatment to children suffering from CHD, the world’s most common birth defect.
Not long after Maham’s family paid us a visit, we scheduled Maham’s surgery at our very own Cardiac Care Centre at the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital (ULTH). Our patient registration process is swift and all other hospital-related formalities are also taken care of thanks to our exceptionally competent team.
Our incredible donor base, consisting of remarkable individuals and organizations supporting our cause, is the sole reason we were able to arrange all of the required funds. With a brilliant team of healthcare professionals on board as well, all that was needed now were the prayers of Maham’s loved ones.
Dr. Faiz performed the surgery himself, and blessedly, after all the phenomenal hard work everyone involved had put in, Maham’s surgery was a massive success! She had overcome CHD and could now look forward to having a better tomorrow and a brighter future.
Maham’s family expressed their eternal gratitude to us and were extremely satisfied with the personnel and facilities they were able to experience. They praised all our efforts over the years, which they feel are necessary for deserving and needful families facing the challenge presented by CHD.
For CHD affected families, no matter how hard things get, no matter how impossible things may seem, we are here for you. Our goal is to ensure that not a single child suffering from CHD in Pakistan remains untreated.
