5-Year-Old John’s Success Story
This is the #SuccessStory of a 5-year-old ‘Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Warrior’, John. He was diagnosed with a potentially fatal CHD called a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), which is a hole in the septum (wall) that separates the two lower ventricles (chambers) of the heart.
John’s family came to us from Lahore’s Youhanabad area. They found out about us through a family friend whose daughter also underwent successful heart surgery through our organization. They arrived with tremendously high hopes for John.
Following initial check-ups and consultations, the family was informed about the treatment that John would need, a VSD Closure. This is a relatively expensive procedure that John’s father could not afford on his own. He works as a salesman and solely supports his entire family, which includes his wife and 4 children.
With limited resources available, he desperately needed financial support. Thanks to our incredible donor base though, exceptional individuals and organizations who remain steadfast with us for our cause, the required funds were arranged in practically no time.
The surgery was then scheduled at our very own Child Heart Center at the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital (ULTH). Dr. Mohamad Asim Khan, a renowned Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon and PCHF Medical Advisory Board Member, was to perform the procedure.
Along with John, we also ensured that his family was well taken care of. From accommodation to doctor’s appointments to all other formalities, we ensured that everything progressed swiftly and smoothly.
With world-class facilities and a brilliant team of healthcare professionals in support of the remarkable Dr. Asim, the prayers of John’s loved ones was all that was required.
After an unimaginably difficult few hours in which the surgery took place, John’s family was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief, as the surgery was a resounding success! We helped give little John the gift of a normal life, and this successful surgery will encourage him to chase all his ambitions in life.
John’s family was immensely satisfied with our work and wished us the very best for our mission. They could not wait to start their new lives, as a family which cherishes every single moment of joy together.
For CHD affected families, no matter how hard things get, no matter how impossible things may seem, we are here for you. Our goal is to ensure that not a single child suffering from CHD in Pakistan remains untreated.
