1-Year-Old Mehreen’s Success Story

This is the inspirational success story of Mehreen, a 1-year-old ‘Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Warrior’ from the historical town of Thatta. She was diagnosed with a critical CHD known as Tetralogy Of Fallot (TOF).
In TOF, four related heart defects change the way blood flows to the lungs and through the heart. In most cases, too little blood goes to the lungs. This low-oxygen blood then circulates to the rest of the body, and too little oxygen reaches the body tissues. Children with TOF often have cyanosis, a blue or purple tint to the skin, lips and fingernails.
Mehreen’s family travelled a long way to get to us. Thatta is all the way on the other side of the country, in Sindh. It was the medieval capital of the province and served as the seat of power for three successive dynasties. Thatta’s Makli Necropolis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Mehreen’s father is a labourer who went through various trials and tribulations in order to save his daughter’s life. He wanted to be the knight in shining armour for his entire family. His search for treatment eventually brought him to us.
As they had limited resources at their disposal, Dr. Asim Khan, a renowned Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon and PCHF Medical Advisory Board Member, referred the family to us. With our tremendous experience of around a decade dealing with such cases, we were readily able to step in and help.
After guiding the family through our swift registration process, preparations for Mehreen’s planned treatment, a Total Correction, were initiated. First, we ensured the arrangement of the required funds. Thanks to our phenomenal donor base, that was done in practically no time. Commendably, Mehreen’s father was able to arrange almost half of the total cost of the treatment.
The surgery was then scheduled at the prestigious Ittefaq Hospital Lahore. Dr. Asim was to perform the procedure himself. We are blessed to be associated with an exceptional individual like him. He is a world-class surgeon at the pinnacle of his career. With a brilliant team of healthcare professionals behind him, the surgery was bound to be a success.
Blessedly, that is exactly what happened. Mehreen’s surgery was successful and she survived a life-threatening disease. Her family, after praying continuously throughout the procedure that lasted for several hours, breathed a sigh of relief. The light of their lives was back, shining brighter than ever.
Mehreen’s family is eternally grateful to us for saving her life. They were tremendously satisfied with the care that they received and the facilities we provided not only to Mehreen, but the whole family. They wished us all the best on our journey to conquering CHD in Pakistan.
